10 Things #2to1Conf Attendees Should Know About Me

2:1 Conference ButtonWe are SEVEN days away from the start of The 2:1 Conference! I’m a little late, but after an extremely busy, blog-neglecting start to the week, I’m joining the pre-conference build-up with a link-up at Bowmania. Steph is doing a great link-up to let 2:1 attendees find out something about each other before the conference, but my *other* special readers might learn something too!

10. I’m flying to the conference, and this is only the second time I’ve flown commercial. In. My. Life.

I’m nervous (especially about the layovers and making connecting flights), but I know lots of people are praying for me, and God’s got it!

9. I’m just me.

If you were expecting something else, you’ll be sorely disappointed. I’m bringing nice jeans, nice but comfy shirts, and a very loud pair of comfy flats I bought this week (because my old faithful pair broke—holes in both).

8. If you have a child with special needs, I’m hosting a meet-up on Saturday night, complete with giveaways, and would love for you to come.

Dress comfortably, grab your favorite snack and drink, and connect with other parents who are sharing the journey. We’ll visit, encourage one another, give away some great books, and enjoy the time together!

7. I like to talk. A lot.

I’m looking forward to meeting you and can’t wait to swap stories with you! I’m glad there’s lots of time to socialize marked out on the schedule!

6. It seems to contradict #7, but I actually like my alone time.

If you see me off by myself, sipping iced tea or a Coke Zero, don’t assume that I’m lonely. I may have pulled aside for a few minutes to process everything. #7 still holds true, though, and the weekend is short. Come on over and start a conversation with me!

5. I’m tall.

You can’t tell in those little avatar pictures, but I’m 5’10” tall. Don’t be surprised when you meet me.

4. We’re wrapping up our fifth year of homeschooling.

I’m excited that we’ve made it this far, and we have some serious spring fever. We’ve already had 163 days of school this school year, so we’ll be wrapping it up in short order after I get back from the conference.

3. I’m from the South.

Please do not be offended if I say things like “Bless your heart” or other stereotypical Southern sayings. I’m not trying to be condescending. That’s just how we talk. (I’ll try not to laugh when I hear you say “you guys” instead of “y’all.”) See #9.

2. I’m not eating sweets much right now.

Please offer (in case I’ve changed my mind), but don’t be upset if I decline. Enjoy your treats, and know that we’ll both be happier if my blood sugar remains stable during the conference.

1. I’ve been praying about this conference for a long time, and I’m excited to see what God is going to do in and through us!

Another HUGE thank you to my wonderful sponsors, Always Icecream/Clever Dragons and Total Yearbooks for helping with my travel expenses! They’re also going to bless you with some great codes for their products!

Reminder: While my blog looks unchanged, it has actually changed locations in cyberspace. If you were an e-mail subscriber before (or would like to join!), please take a moment to re-subscribe.

  3. Joy says:

Wow! 5’10???? I am still going to hug your neck, even if I have to stand on a chair! Or you could always kneel! LOL

I am southern too! So we will just Bless everyone’s heart together! :) I

I can’t wait to meet you!!

    • Jennifer Janes says:

I’m starting to wonder how tall everyone thought I was?!? I’m glad I got it out in the open ahead of time! 😉

I’ll be happy to kneel or pull up a chair for you, Joy! I’m looking forward to hugging your neck too. Thanks for helping me “bless everyone’s heart”!

  4. Cheryl Pitt says:

I have been so touched by your support and prayer through this amazing journey. I know God has heard your prayers and I’m also excited to see what God does.

    • Jennifer Janes says:

Thank you, Cheryl! I know He has heard us too. I’m happy to have been a part of 2:1 for so long. I’m glad I’ll be there with you to see what happens next!

  5. aurie says:

    I had to laugh at #5…and all the responses with it :) I’m 5’7 3/4 and people tell me that I’m tall. It will be nice to feel short {grin!}

Seriously…can’t wait to meet you after our twitter chats!!

    • Jennifer Janes says:

I’m laughing at #5 too, Aurie! I had no idea that it would garner such a response. I’m glad I said something.

I’m seriously looking forward to meeting you too, but at almost 5′ 8″, I don’t think you’ll need the chair! 😉

  6. So excited to meet you!

And between being southern and reading southern literature, I tend to have expressions just “pop” out of my mouth that people don’t always expect. I was talking to my son the other night and said “like a chicken on a june bug” and my husband just burst out laughing at me. :)

    • Jennifer Janes says:

I love that expression, Jamie! I can’t wait to meet you. I don’t really think about it until it’s pointed out to me, but we do have some pretty funny expressions!

  7. See? I really needed to be at 2:1 . . . if for no other reason than to hang out with other ladies who have their heads in the clouds! (I’m 5’9.)

    Praying for all of you!

    • Jennifer Janes says:

Thanks, Kim! I’m looking forward to meeting you too. I can hug you without having to kneel, bend over, or grab a chair for you to stand on! 😉

  8. Thank you for linking up! :) I can’t wait to MEET YOU IN PERSON!!! :) :)

Maybe we can have her sit on a chair so we can reach her neck! :) Clumsy me may fall if I stand on a chair! 😉

    • Jennifer Janes says:

Thanks for letting me link up so late in the game! :)

I’m looking forward to meeting you in person too, Steph! Having me sit down sounds like a great idea. I don’t want you to fall, and if I kneel, I might not be able to get back up! I have a grumpy knee. :)

  9. I LOVE #5… why? Because I’m tall too! Not AS tall… but at 5’8″ I often tower over other women. I love people who are taller than I… and I love you my friend!! Can’t wait to meet and hug you IRL… wish I was going to 2:1!! But will be praying for your safe travels!

    • Jennifer Janes says:

Thanks for praying, Jen! I wish you were going to be there too. I can’t wait to meet you and hug you too. I guess you won’t be needing a chair. 😉

  10. Nancy M. says:

I’m from the south too and this is also the end of our fifth year of homeschooling. If you find yourself wanting to get rid of some sweets, pass them my way, lol! Hope to meet you!

    • Jennifer Janes says:

Definitely! I hope to meet you too! Look for me. I’ll be the tall one with gray hair, blessing everyone’s heart. 😉
