Fun

When did life quit being fun? Somewhere along the way, I made a decision to stop having fun. I don’t think it was a conscious decision, but I have let the trials and tests we’re experiencing rob me of the joy and beauty of fun. I don’t think this is the way God intends for me to live.

I can learn a lot from my children. A lot of the time, Roo’s life stinks. But she doesn’t let it spoil her fun. She has moments when she feels too bad to keep going or is frustrated and angry about what’s going on. But more often than not, she can set everything aside to have fun.

I’ve quit putting day-to-day stuff on the back burner so I can have fun. That tells me I’m doing a lousy job of casting my cares on my Father so I can enjoy each day. It’s time for me to regain my childlike faith, to be a kid again. I know two people who will show me how. I’m going to grab the girls and head out!

Yes, yes, I also want to grab on and hold tight to my kids’ hands and let them lead me into their joy and leave my grown up worries behind for a while.

“but I have let the trials and tests we’re experiencing rob me of the joy and beauty of fun” – yes, I love this. Beautiful.

    • Thanks, Lisa-Jo. Thank you for your encouragement.

And I did grab my girls’ hands and find some fun today. We tracked the last steam engine Union Pacific made (in 1944) via GPS on the internet this morning. Then, when it got close to our town, we loaded up and headed for the railroad yards! It was wonderful to see history there in front of us!

Life is supposed to be fun?

    • I don’t know that life is supposed to be fun. In fact, life stinks a lot of the time. I’m just thinking we’re supposed to have some fun in there somewhere, sometime! (Like when we spend the whole day together and eat pizza and doughnuts. But don’t tell anybody. That’s our little secret!)

I guess I just want to be more like Roo. She doesn’t let stuff drag her down for long. You know Roo! If there’s not fun going on, she’ll make some of her own!

      Carmen,

      Short answer….yes.

Life is supposed to be fun. Even when we face trials, struggles, etc., scripture tells us to “rejoice!”

      It seems counter-intuitive, true.

But Jesus is counter-intuitive to the conventional wisdom of the world.

Thanks to both Christian and Jennifer. Physical and mental illness sometimes take away the joy, but I know deep in my soul that Jesus is our joy and that He wants us to have fun, at least occasionally.

    • I love you! Don’t ever forget that. I am so thankful and blessed that you’re my friend. We’ve walked a lot of miles together, and we’re not going to stop making the journey together—even in eternity!

  4. Children set such a great example for us, don’t they? I’m so glad you followed her lead! :)
