How #AWBU 2013 Changed My Life
The 2013 Arkansas Women Bloggers Conference I attended last weekend changed my life. I went to #AWBU 2013 because I wanted to learn tips for improving my blogging and writing, hear great speakers, meet and develop relationships with bloggers in my home state, and walk 5K in an hour or less.
I did all of that, but I didn’t expect the life-changing moments I experienced in the first session I attended on Saturday morning. I went to “Balancing Writing and Children: Becoming a Writer Mom”, where I expected Tricia Goyer to share how to juggle everything. Tricia didn’t share as much about time management as I thought she would, but the questions she asked during that session completely changed my thinking, and the answers to those questions have rocked my world.
Tricia asked us to think about what our goals are for our writing and our families and to look at our schedules and list everything we do in a week. Then she asked us to look at each activity and decide whether it helps us meet the goals we have for our writing and our family.
For me, it was a painful process. I have allowed a lot of things to creep into my daily routine that don’t help me fulfill the calling God has on my life—writing, homeschooling, serving my family. I prayed as I went up and down the hill between meeting rooms at Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center and argued with God about whether He was really asking me to give up certain activities that I’ve held onto for far too long already. He was. While it has been difficult to let go, I am walking in obedience and already feel more free and focused than I have in months.
I still have adjustments to make, but I’m excited to see what happens next as I spend my time focused on homeschooling and enjoying my children, sharing my heart on my blog, and digging into writing the books I’ve put off writing for too long.
I look forward to sharing the journey with you!
