Welcome to the “Be Fully Persuaded” series! Today I share how God provided meat for our family in a very unexpected way. I pray that you are encouraged to stand strong in your faith and that God will make Romans 4:20-21 a reality for all of us as we focus on Him and His Word:
Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

Be Fully Persuaded: Fish in the Freezer
I may not have said it quite this clearly before, but I will today. The past several years have been quite lean for our family. Last fall, just as we were wondering how we were going to buy meat so we would have some protein on our table, we got a call from someone who had killed a deer and would have it processed for us if we wanted it. By Christmas, our freezer was full of venison, and God even answered the prayer I prayed about changing my tastes so I would like it!
By the spring of 2012, however, the deer was running low and we really wanted to mix in a different protein. We turned to some fish that my husband’s aunt and uncle had caught, cleaned, and frozen for us. We fried it and learned to bake it even as we were still playing 101 ways to prepare venison.
When we got down to a couple of packages of deer meat, we knew we were going to have to do something. We had already eaten fish a few times, and my husband told me that we were down to one bag of fish. I went to the freezer to dig around so I would know exactly what we had to work with. I emptied everything from our chest freezer into a laundry basket so I could see it all and organize it as I put it back in.
To my surprise and my husband’s amazement, there were four bags of fish in the freezer. We took one out to thaw and prepare for our family. We ate on it for a few days, used some more of the deer meat, and then went back for more fish.
There were still four bags of fish in the freezer!
If I hadn’t just taken everything out of the freezer, I wouldn’t have believed it. I would have assumed I missed a bag underneath an ice pack or something. But that wasn’t the case.
We continued to eat fish. Every time I went to pull a quart-sized bag from the freezer, there were four bags. Until May. We were planning a trip to see my husband’s family, and as the date got closer, the bags of fish were used up the way it normally happens.
On Memorial Day weekend, my husband, the girls, and our uncle went fishing. They caught so many fish that it took them most of the afternoon to clean and bag them. We came home with eight bags of fish for our freezer! The next day, we headed home but our cousin went fishing with his dad, and they caught two fish. Just two. There was no way we could deny God’s provision in all of this.
Why am I surprised? God has multiplied fish before—twice!
How have you seen God provide for you or someone you know in amazing ways?
