Be Fully Persuaded: Random Acts of Kindness

Be Fully Persuaded: Random Acts of Kindness -

A (belated) “Merry Christmas!” to all of you! We’re struggling with illness combined with holiday busyness the past couple of weeks. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas Day and are looking forward to a wonderful 2013! I am definitely more hopeful after praying through some things last week. I feel like I finally got some direction on some things and am resting in God’s ability to take care of the rest.

If this is your first “Be Fully Persuaded” post, welcome! We meet here every week to rejoice in God’s faithfulness to keep His promises and in His creative provision for every area of our lives. I pray that we are all encouraged to stand strong in our faith and that God will make Romans 4:20-21 a reality for all of us as we focus on Him and His Word:

Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

Romans 4:20-21 (NIV)

Random Acts of Kindness

God has provided for our needs so many times. He has provided money to us directly through people who listened to His leading. He has provided encouragement and healing to us and to others. He has stretched our resources beyond what we ever imagined. And He has provided for us – hope, encouragement, love – through random acts of kindness.

God has showed His love to us through random acts of kindness through the years, including these:

  • a neighbor who blew our leaves into a pile and then bagged them for us one fall when my husband was incredibly busy at work
  • another neighbor who mows our yard (and the yards of other neighbors) after he does his own, just to be helpful
  • the then-stranger who took a half-day off work to sit at Children’s with me when Princess Roo had some pre-surgery testing done that required an overnight admission. (DH couldn’t take off for both, so he was taking off for the actual surgery.)
  • the money I found tucked into Princess Roo’s diaper bag when I picked her up from the nursery at church one Sunday. I asked about it, but I was told it belonged to me.
  • the gift card I found in the mail shortly after my husband lost his job when the girls were little. It provided much-needed grocery money, and I never found out who it came from.

These are just some of the ways we have been blessed through random acts of kindness. We have blessed others with them too. It never fails to bring me deep joy when I see the look on someone’s face when we surprise them—or never see their face at all when we manage to get away completely unseen!

Do you want to start 2013 off with a spirit of giving? Join me in performing 26 acts of kindness in memory of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting. There are some great printables to include with your acts here.

How do you and your family plan to give as we end this year and start a new one?

Jennifer – God shows up in the family of Christ – when we share with others our needs in love, truth and humility. You do that all the time sweet friend and I am blessed by your words!
