Birthday Party and Roof Drama

In my life this week…

We celebrated BookGirl’s 10th birthday. Her birthday isn’t until the 12th, but family schedule conflicts prevented us from doing the party next weekend, and she didn’t want to wait until the 15th (which is good since it’s Father’s Day weekend). We had a great time during the party, despite having a limb fall on our roof and leave a 2 foot by 4 inch gash in our decking just as the party began. Fortunately, neighbors helped get a temporary patch on before it started raining.

In our homeschool this week…

It’s summer for us. We’re working on reading and math skills a few days a week. We are still reading books from the Heritage History Young Readers Collection. The girls aren’t willing to give those up!

We signed up for the summer reading program at our local library on Friday. BookGirl signed up for a knitting class, and they’ll both be participating in a couple of other classes at the library. We are signed up for Kids Bowl Free and will also attend Cinemark’s Summer Movie Clubhouse several times this summer.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

When it’s time for a break, enjoy it! Don’t feel guilty because you think you “should” be doing something else because other families are. Every situation is different. Do what works best for your family.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

The library program sign-up was fun. We saw some homeschool families we haven’t seen for a few months and got to catch up with people. We had VBS training and are looking forward to that outreach that will take place in a few weeks.

My favorite thing this week was…

Hosting BookGirl’s birthday party. The kids created two different crafts. It was structured but relaxed, and everyone had a great time.

My kiddos’ favorite thing this week was…

BookGirl’s birthday party. BookGirl enjoyed spending time with her friends, and Princess Roo always enjoys a good party.

Things I’m working on…

Slowing down for the summer to spend more time with my family. Now that Teach Them Diligently Convention is over, I’m getting ready to write some eBooks that have been on my heart for a while.

There’s another writing project that I’m praying about, but it’s so big that it will take God at work to help me get it done and out there for the world to see!

I’m cooking…

Chili, baked potatoes, homemade burritos, salads, and sandwiches.

I’m grateful for…

Neighbors who worked to help us get a temporary patch on our roof so that we didn’t have water damage inside.

I’m praying for…

Friends and family members who are going through difficult times. Our country. Victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes.

I rewarded my kids this week by…

Saying “yes” when they asked to do crafts and art projects. The house has been a little messier as a result, but they helped clean up.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share (silly, serious or both!)…
