If you have read any of my Wednesday posts recently, you know that I am on a quest to know God better, to love Him with everything in me, and to hide His Word deep within me so the Holy Spirit can bring it to my mind when life gets tough (which is far too often, lately)!
Last weekend, we decorated our Christmas tree and placed some decorations around the house, including our Nativity Calendar and Advent wreath. At the end of last week, we set aside science and social studies briefly to focus on the “3 Rs” and enjoy the Christmas season. We are reading lots of books about Christmas (heavy emphasis on the True Reason, light on the commercial/material aspects), doing Christmas crafts, and planning our homemade gifts so we can get the materials this weekend and get busy making them! It has been a wonderful change to our homeschooling schedule.
Because of these activities, I have been thinking a lot about the first Christmas. I am awed by the thought of God in a manger and can’t fathom the love that would make Him come to earth as a helpless baby . . . for me.
This week, I’m going to attempt to memorize (it may be more meditating on) Isaiah 9:6-7. I want Him to help me know Him better in the ways expressed by these names. I am also looking forward to the day when He will reign on the earth and His justice and righteousness will prevail. There is hope to be found in these verses, and I’m latching onto it!
“For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the LORD Almighty
will accomplish this.”
Isaiah 9:6-7 (NIV1984)
Please join Rebecca and me as we seek to know Him and His Word better. Write a post about your verse and link up here (below) or at Mom’s Mustard Seeds to join us. If you don’t blog, please leave a comment here or on Rebecca’s blog! I can’t wait to see where God has you camped out in His Word this week!
