Homeschool Mother’s Journal: Influenza and Bronchitis

Homeschool Mother's Journal -

In my life this week…

My older daughter and I finally started to feel better from our bouts of sinusitis and bronchitis. Then my younger daughter got sick. She was in bad shape very quickly, so I took her to see the pediatrician, who did some tests and diagnosed the flu and bronchitis. And my husband was diagnosed with the beginnings of bronchitis.

In our homeschool this week…

We have been doing light school work. My older daughter has done her language arts, math, and reading pretty much independently (which is normal for her). My younger daughter has watched some “vocabulary building” shows like WordGirl and Martha Speaks (which, believe it or not, helps her with figurative language) while she has coughed and run fever. Later in the afternoons, we’ve read Dinosaurs for Kids (enhanced eBook) by Ken Ham and Dutch Twins by Lucy F. Perkins together for science and social studies.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

When you need to take it easy, do so. Because I haven’t been stressed about “getting things done” this week, the lessons we have been able to do have been enjoyable for all of us.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

No one. We’re trying to keep our germs to ourselves. We haven’t been out of the house since my younger daughter’s doctor appointment on Tuesday morning.

My favorite thing this week was…

Hearing the doctor say that my younger daughter did not have pneumonia.

My kiddos favorite thing this week was…

LOTS of TV time, I’m sure.

Things I’m working on…

The five-day series that’s running next week. Another project I’ve been asked to contribute to. And, research for the eBook that is now percolating in my brain. You can find out more and actually help me with that project by taking a quick and painless survey here.

I’m cooking…

Loaded baked potatoes, tacos, chicken and rice, 15-bean soup.

I’m grateful for…

Health insurance and a flex card to help pay for antibiotics and Tamiflu.

I’m praying for…

My family to get completely well and for all the other families I know who are fighting illness.

I rewarded my kids this week by…

Does giving them lots of popsicles, Sprite, and Kool-Aid to prevent dehydration count? They normally don’t get to have lots of that kind of stuff.

Something I am ogling or have my eye on…

The Eyes Wide Open series by Ted Dekker. He’s releasing an installment a week until all four are launched. I’m working to earn mPoints for an Amazon gift card so I can get them FREE!

A photo, video, link, or quote to share (silly, serious or both!)…

I was really glad to see that smile after she had been so sick for a couple of days that I couldn’t coax one out of her!
