Homeschool Mother’s Journal: Sunshine and Rain

Homeschool Mother's Journal -

 In my life this week…

Everyone is finally well at my house! We have actually had a somewhat normal-for-us week for the first time in 2013, and I am very thankful!

We had some storms come through, some foggy and very overcast days, and got some much-needed rain. We finally had some sunshine come our way on Thursday. Our activities have definitely been affected by the weather this week. The girls have gotten a little tired of staying inside with all the illness and then foul weather!

In our homeschool this week…

We have gotten a lot done! We finished up the Heritage History and dinosaur books we were reading and are moving on to other projects. We’re studying the Netherlands for history/geography for a bit after finishing a book about some Dutch children, and I think the girls want to do more dinosaur studies before we move on to something else. We’ll see.

I used A+ Tutorsoft and Ticket to Read for Princess Roo this week, in addition to the Grammaropolis app. We also read some from a Wilson reader. I am pleased with her progress.

BookGirl is plugging along in her Christian Light Education curriculum. She started multiplying three-digit by three-digit numbers this week. It threw her at first, but she got past the mental block quickly and did very well. She is also working on a report about panda bears. I think we need to make a trip to the library to collect more information.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

Get up earlier than your children to get yourself going and take care of some projects before they get up. I’ve done that with Hello Mornings this week, and it has really made a difference!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

We were back to our regular routine this week—dance, church activities, therapy sessions, and some time with friends and family.

My favorite thing this week was…

Hardly coughing at all.

My kiddos’ favorite thing this week was…

Having me go with them to their activities. My husband has done a lot of the taking/picking up because I’ve been fighting that bronchitis.

Things I’m working on…

So many projects that I can’t count them all! I have a lot going on now and am trying to keep myself disciplined and working on all of them. There are a couple of ebooks (or chapters of ebooks) in the works, some presentations I’m preparing for, and more!

I’m cooking…

This week’s menu: Southwest veggie soup, loaded baked potatoes and leftover chili, leftover deer steak and rice, tacos, crock pot chicken, and 15-bean soup.

I’m grateful for…

Feeling healthy again and being able to carry on with a somewhat normal routine.

I’m praying for…

Some friends who are going through some difficult situations. Our nation and leaders.

I rewarded my kids this week by…

We had dark chocolate M&Ms (in valentine colors) and Peeps shaped like Mickey Mouse ears.

Something I am ogling or have my eye on…

A pink plasma car for Princess Roo.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share (silly, serious or both!)…

When FedEx brought a new book one morning, the girls were completely engrossed. I love it when that happens!

Good week! We just read a fun dinosaur book this week – Katie and the Dinosaurs by James Mayhew. Katie goes to a museum and opens a door she shouldn’t, discovering live dinosaurs. A fun adventure ensues. My 5 yo especially loved it.
