Mustard Seed Planting: Living with the End in Mind

Mustard Seeds

If you’ve read any of my recent posts, you know there are storms raging in our lives. I have been overwhelmed and discouraged. Although I’ve had moments of victory over the anxiety, I’ve had many more moments where I failed to take those thoughts captive and continued to struggle with fear, worry, and doubt.

The storms rolling through our lives have brought me to my knees . . . again. They have humbled me and made me realize once more that I can do nothing on my own. The first two days of this week, I have walked in darkness, praying to see light.

I finally saw some yesterday. I found a mistake on a medical bill (through a series of circumstances that were clearly God’s hand at work) that will save us a few hundred dollars, and I saw some progress in another area we’ve prayed fervently about. Just when I was ready to give up, God revealed that He’s working faithfully behind the scenes on our behalf. I know that’s true in other areas too, so I’m going to keep praying and believing, knowing that the answers are on the way!

I read two things this week that have helped me to refocus on what’s really important. The first was some chapters from The Ministry of Motherhood on inspiring our children to pursue God by pointing out the beauty in the world around us and by sharing how He’s at work in our lives. The other was 1 Peter 4:7 (NIV1984):

“The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.”

Eternity is at stake. I need to forget about my “stuff.” God has already promised to handle that. My focus should be sharing the hope I’ve found in Christ with as many people as possible and teaching my children to do the same. There are few things that will matter in the long run, and I can only fulfill my purpose if I’m clear-minded and prayed up.

How are you living with the end in mind?

Please join Rebecca and me as we share how God is transforming our lives through His Word. We would love for you to share your journey with us by linking-up or leaving a comment here or at Mom’s Mustard Seeds. The comments and posts never fail to minister to me. Thank you!

  1. true, our focus must be Christ and all is done for God’s glory, isn’t it? Thanks for the post, keep the faith!

  2. So true…He is always there….and it seems like He’s behind the scenes…but, then…when the pieces start coming together, we see…that He was right out in the light the whole time! LOVE YOU!!

Awesome post and a wonderful reminder that God is always there for us!

I love what you wrote about “God working behind the scenes.” It is so true, because often we don’t see how He is working things out and then we find that things that seem to “fall into place” were actually carefully orchestrated by the Lord Himself.

We love this verse in our family: “But I trust in you, O Lord, I say, ‘You are my God. My times are in Your hands.'” Psalm 31:14-15

    Praying for strength for you!
