My Family’s Top 10 Long-Lasting Toys
For fun, I wanted to make a “top ten” list of toys that have lasted in our home, and I decided to consider both the toys that have held up well and the ones they still play with (at almost 10 and 8 years old). They don’t play with toys as much as they used to, so some of these may be a stretch for the “toy” category.
- Littlest Pet Shop
- Play-Doh and accessories
- Nintendo DSi
- Dolls – BookGirl played with them when she was small, and Princess Roo is just starting to play with dolls. She’s using many of the same ones that BookGirl mothered.
- Stuffed animals – We have way too many of these, and the girls are very attached to them. It’s always sad when we force them to start making choices.
- Legos
- Scooters
- Bikes
- Loving Family Dollhouse and accessories
- Board games – Many of our favorite games are listed in this post.

Great list of timeless toys!
Thanks! I had to think for a while before I realized how many we really have!
My girls loved The Littlest Pet Shops. They still get them out and play with them now and then. Definitely worth the money.
My girls have played with theirs for SO long, Robin! I think it’s going to be one of the last toys to go.
You’re right there is a lot of similarity. I’m betting there’s going to be a lot of lists with Legos on them.
I was thinking the same thing when I added Legos to mine, Ticia.
Yes, my daughter is only 4, but she and our 2 year old absolutely love the Loving Family Dollhouse and accessories. I bought her the big sister when we had our third baby. She calls it “Isabelle,” herself. It’s sweet. I especially love seeing my 2 year old son play. He gets the daddy to bathe the babies (my husband does bathtime at our house) and daddy rocks the babies to sleep. It’s precious!
The dollhouse is fun for everyone! That’s precious that your son plays too.
