Review: Stand Up! Big Band Praise from Discovery House Music

I have a confession to make. I’m old-fashioned. I grew up watching “classic” movies with my dad, and much of the time I still prefer them to newer movies! I also grew up listening to “classic” music. We listened to many different types of music, but one of my favorites has always been Big Band music, especially the music of Glenn Miller.

I also grew up in church, so I like hymns and enjoy listening to Contemporary Christian music too, including the new worship songs.

I listened to Stand Up! Big Band Praise featuring the Swing Low Praise Band from Discovery House Music over the weekend. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. The CD has twelve songs on it, ranging from “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” to “Indescribable.” Although arranged and performed in the Big Band style, they were instantly recognizable, and I was able to sing along with my favorites.

I really like this CD. It brought back great memories of times with my dad and also focused my thoughts on God because of the meaning behind the songs. (This is an instruments-only CD. You have to remember the lyrics yourself!)

The only thing I didn’t like about this CD was the color scheme for the artwork on the cover. I like the graphics and layout, but the blue and black weren’t eye-catching enough for my tastes.

Despite my disappointment with the cover’s color scheme, I will enjoy this CD for a long time and hope I can use it to help my children learn to appreciate Big Band music.
