Homeschool Mother’s Journal: Week of Waiting

Homeschool Mother's Journal -

In my life this week…

I have spent much of the week waiting. I waited until Wednesday for a call from the immunologist’s office because they were out the first part of the week. Then I called the insurance company to get the paperwork started for Roo’s infusions, and I’m still waiting for a call back. (Well, I actually got a call back—to tell me that the person I need to talk to is out with the flu and will get back to me tomorrow or Monday. I appreciate that they didn’t leave me wondering!)

I have struggled with my emotions this week and with keeping things turned completely over to God. I feel like I’m back on an even keel now, after listening to this song over and over and making it the prayer of my heart.

In our homeschool this week…

We were very productive! We worked on language arts, reading, and math for each child at her level. BookGirl started a historical fiction book based on the life and work of David Livingstone, and we finished Swiss Twins by Lucy F. Perkins. I thought BookGirl was going to cry because it was over. Next we’ll do some geography and culture studies on Switzerland before moving on to another living history book.

We also started art lessons with See the Light and enjoyed reading more from Made in Heaven for science.

It was a great week, even with all the waiting.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

Know that things are going to level out. We have had weeks since starting back after Christmas break where it seemed like we didn’t get much done because someone was sick. We did lessons, but not the full range I would like to do each week. Now that everyone is feeling better, we’re getting a lot done, and it feels great. Relax! Everything works itself out if you keep plugging along.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

My grandmother was sick with the flu this week, so we didn’t get to have lunch with her. We all missed it because that’s a weekly “tradition” all of us enjoy. We had dance, AWANA, OT, and therapeutic riding, and I’m planning a play date right now.

And . . . Princess Roo attended her first sleepover party (other than family) last weekend. She had a lot of fun, but she was really tired the next day. I heard rumors that she was the last one to go to sleep—around 2:00 a.m. It made for an interesting day last Saturday.

My favorite thing this week was…

Listening to my kids laugh as they watched the soon-to-be-released VeggieTales DVD. (I also cried watching the new What’s in the Bible? DVD. Very touching.)

My kiddos’ favorite thing this week was…

I asked them. BookGirl couldn’t choose just one thing, and Princess Roo mentioned something about a TV show. *sigh*

Things I’m working on…

Some chapters for the eBook the bloggers of iHomeschool Network are working on. More research for my eBook. Some reviews (and giveaways!).

Oh, and a super fun project that will be running next week alongside my usual posts. It’s going to be a lot of fun!

I’m cooking…

Southwest chicken and black bean soup. (It came out purple, but the girls loved the color. It tasted good too.) Tacos. Potato hash. All of the above as leftovers—except tacos. They never last longer than twenty minutes.

I’m grateful for…

My grandmother is already feeling better after her bout with the flu. I got out of the doldrums of Wednesday afternoon fairly quickly after some prayer and praise.

I’m praying for…

This paperwork for Roo’s infusions to be set up quickly and easily—and for favor with the specialty pharmacy we need to work with.

I rewarded my kids this week by…

I bought a five-pound bag of jellybeans at Sam’s Club. I gave them a few today and told them we’re going to make them last until Easter. 😉

Something I am ogling or have my eye on…

For me? Well, there are a few things in the new AVON catalog that I’m eyeing. I think DH and I are agreed that I’m going to order the dress. :)

A photo, video, link, or quote to share (silly, serious or both!)…

  2. I know how hard it can be to wait and work with insurance companies and doctors. {hugs} It sounds like you had a great week! I was wondering if you would be interested in writing a post for me on homeschooling and special needs.
